THE man at the head of two ambulance services – including the one covering Worcestershire – is to step down from one of his roles, it has been revealed.

Dr Anthony Marsh is to leave his role as chief executive of East of England Ambulance Service while staying on at West Midlands Ambulance Service.

But claims he would leave the £232,000-a-year role immediately have been denied by the service, which said he would stay in his post until a replacement is found.

Dr Marsh took up the East of England job in January with a remit to turn the struggling service around, but now looks set to leave before his two-year contract is up, assuming someone can be recruited to fill the post.

In August Dr Marsh’s salary was branded “obscene by health minister Dan Poulter.

It has also been revealed the organisation has already tried twice to recruit a replacement for Mr Marsh but with no success.
