GREAT Malvern's Victorian railway station has been awarded a certificate of excellence by the travel website TripAdvisor for the second year running.

And the award has been described as "great news" by rail company London Midland, which operates the station off Avenue Road.

TripAdvisor bases its awards on comments from its users, and among the commenters was one who described the station as "a location straight out of central casting" and went on to say: "Few stations this size can boast a florist/curio shop as well as an elegant tea room, all with nice little touches dotted about. The station has a real Laura Ashley feel about the place.”

Other posters on TripAdvisor called it "an unusual and pretty station", "a Victorian gem" and "superb - how stations used to be".

London Midland’s head of route Brenda Lawrence, said: "The Certificate of Excellence means a great deal as it is based on the experiences of people from all over the world who visit our station. Raising the profile of Malvern on TripAdvisor is also great news for the local businesses that benefit from the town’s tourism trade."

Great Malvern station serves the line that links Malvern with Birmingham and Hereford. .The station retains most of its original Victorian design by the architect E W Elmslie and is a Grade II listed building dating back to 1862.

Among its many features are original Great Western Railway Luggage trollies, which were painstakingly restored by Malvern retired minister John Guise and presented to the station last year.
