A FORMER paramedic who is launching a lifesaving training scheme in Malvern says he is delighted with the "fantastic" response he has received from Gazette readers.

Two weeks ago, we reported how Richard Vakis-Lowe wanted to hear from people who can help him launch the scheme, which will provide training in resuscitation techniques, including use of a defibrillator.

He said: "There has been a fantastic response Since the article was published, a number of people have already come forward to support the scheme.

"However, I would still like to invite anyone who would like to support Heartstart Malvern, to attend a meeting at Prospect View Medical Centre on Friday, June 3, at 2pm.

"I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in becoming a treasurer or a secretary for the scheme. Although both roles are extremely important, the time commitment is likely to be less than a couple of hours a week.

"Although I hadn’t planned to start recruiting trainers until after the summer, a number of volunteer trainers have already come forward.

"The only barrier to currently stop the scheme providing free training now, is not having any funds to buy essential training equipment. We need a couple of resuscitation training manikins and a couple of training defibrillators.

" The manikins and training defibrillators cost just over £200 each. I would be very keen to hear from any organisations who would be kind enough to donate some money to help us buy a piece of training equipment.

If you are interested in becoming involved or would like to donate training equipment, contact Mr Vakis-Lowe on richardvakislowe@gmail.com or 07716 345300.A FORMER paramedic who is launching a lifesaving training scheme in Malvern says he is delighted with the "fantastic" response he has received from Gazette readers.
