VISITORS and residents in the Malvern area will have plenty to choose from when it comes to fun over the August Bank Holiday weekend

For fans of classic pop, the place to be is the Upton Sunshine festival, now in its seventh year, with a slate of stars including Midge Ure, Fine Young Cannibals, Bad Manners, T'Pau, Sister Sledge and the Bay City Rollers, playing their much-loved hits.

The three-day festival, which this year has five stages, also includes cabaret and variety acts, as well as a programme of classic tribute bands.

There's music in Malvern as well, thanks to Malvern Town Council, with Flatworld bringing their global groove to Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon, and the Sauce City Jazz Band at Priory Park on Sunday.

Malvern Vale Community Centre is hosting its summer fete on Saturday. Entry is just £1, and among the attractions are a hog roast, stalls, games, music and more.

The popular arts and food market is back in the grounds of Great Malvern Priory on Saturday, from 10am to 5pm, with participants including local designers, artists and artisan food and drink producers.

District council leader Phil Grove said: "These markets are an excellent way to showcase and support our talented local businesses. We look forward to seeing the town packed with residents and visitors enjoying what's on offer."

The Three Counties Showground is hosting a flea fair on Bank Holiday Monday, billed as the largest event of its type in Worcestershire, with up to 300 stallholders in the Avon and Wye halls.

And on Sunday, the great hall at the National Trust’s Brockhampton Estate, near Bromyard, will be filled with the sounds of ancient music, with Richard Commander and Frank O’Neil performing 18th century sonatas and Elizabethan dance tunes.

Chris Marks of Great Malvern Association of Trade said: "We've had a reasonable summer so far. When they had the VW shop at the Three Counties Showground a couple of weeks ago, we saw a lot of people coming into the town centre from that. The restaurants and cafes did good business that weekend."

The Malvern Tourist Information Centre recorded 17,585 visitors from May until the end of July.
