A LORRY has overturned on the M5 this evening causing major delays for motorists, as the northbound carriageway is closed.

The lorry, carrying agricultural equipment, overturned and spilled its load at around 5pm between Junction 5, (Droitwich) and 6 (Worcester).

Emergency services are currently at the scene and traffic is backing up to Tewkesbury.

Witness Diane Portlock said: "Thankfully, I don't think there were any serious injuries and driver was out.

"These machines could have so easily squashed a car or the motorcyclist behind. Miracle!"

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has tweeted that one patient has been treated for minor injuries.

WMAS says the lorry overturned after being in a collision with another lorry.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

Central Motorway Police Group earlier tweeted that it was possible there would be long delays this evening while the lorry was recovered.
