HAT-TRICK hero Tom Biggs scored an early contender for Warriors’ ‘try of the season’ in an emphatic 55-16 victory against Nottingham at Sixways.

The former Bath player opened his account with an interception try from inside his own half and then scored a superb individual effort on the stroke of half-time.

The 30-year-old completed his treble – and rounded off Warriors’ nine-try rout – from a kick ahead which he gathered to dive over the line.

It was a spectacular finale from Warriors, who overpowered Nottingham with four tries in the final ten minutes.

And Dean Ryan’s men are now second in the Greene King IPA Championship after three successive victories.

The scoreline would suggest that Warriors had things their own way. But Nottingham led 10-5 – and also missed a penalty – and trailed only 22-16 after 55 minutes.

The introduction of Ignacio Mieres and Char - lie Mulchrone gave Warriors impetus for the final quarter onslaught. Mieres made an im - pact when he came into the fray, kicking four conversions, while he was also held up over the try-line.

Warriors eventually pulled clear after re - placement prop Val Rapava Ruskin powered over for his first try for the club with 29 min - utes remaining.

Ryan will be frustrated by his side’s high er - ror count in the first-half and their failure to score points in the ten-minute period when Toby Freeman was sent to the sin-bin.

Teenage fly-half Tiff Eden had a mixed af - ternoon on his first competitive start for War - riors. Eden tackled well but struggled with his kicking. And on one occasion, the youngster spurned an attacking line-out chance for War - riors when, aiming for the corner, he booted the ball over the dead-ball line.

Gerrit-Jan van Velze was strong in the line-out and dangerous in the loose as Nottingham’s players tired.

Nottingham stunned the hosts with the opening try after a driving maul. Will Maisey chipped the ball through to the sprawling Ed Styles, who touched down. Maisey slotted the conversion but missed a penalty soon after - wards.

Mike Williams was stretchered off with a head injury after being knocked out in a mid - field collision but Nottingham remained on the front foot.

But Nottingham’s enterprise brought their downfall. Biggs intercepted a pass from Joe Munro, gathered at the second attempt and ran 80 metres to score.

Maisey’s penalty nudged Nottingham 10-5 ahead before Max Stelling scored the first of his two tries, cutting through two tackles after an offload from Andy Symons.

Jonny Arr notched Warriors’ third try, which Eden converted, after a neat inside move in - volving Ben Howard and Sam Smith. And War - riors sealed their try bonus point before the break from Biggs’ spectacular touchdown.

Maisey kept Nottingham in contention with two penalties but Warriors’ impact from the bench told in the final 20 minutes.

First, Ruskin powered over from a driving maul, and then referee Simon Harding awarded Warriors a penalty-try after a high tackle denied Biggs a score.

Smith raced clear after a quick tap for Warriors’ seventh before Stelling broke through after combining with van Velze.

Fittingly, Biggs completed his treble.
