MALVERN Town put their improved results on the line at leaders Bridgnorth in the West Midlands League Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).
Les Jones' fifth-placed side picked up a revenge 1-0 midweek win at Wellington, who were the first team to beat Malvern at home this season on August 26 when they scored with the only shot of the game.
Tuesday's match resembled that fixture but this time Malvern came out on top with substitute Lee Hooper netting nine minutes from time.
Kirk Layton shot wide in the 12th minute before Town had to make a change when Jamie Smith replaced Jamie Thomas, who suffered a deep gash to his leg after being caught by studs.
Layton fired off target again from Bryan Craven's pass but Wellington should have taken the lead five minutes before half-time.
Joe Endacott was ruled to have fouled in the area but keeper Chas Weaver produced a superb save from Aaron Morgan's penalty.
Malvern threatened just before the break when Reece King nodded Layton's cross wide at the back post.
Wellington keeper Dan Mancui blocked a Matt Turner effort on 53 minutes following a fine cross and then had to save from the same player.
However, Malvern secured the three points in the 81st minute when Hooper tapped home Dan Herbert's knock-on.
Town nearly added a second when Mancui saved Phil Harris' fierce shot late on.
Malvern head to Pegasus Juniors on Tuesday (7.45pm).
