WORCESTER Warriors director of rugby Dean Ryan has tipped fly-half Ryan Lamb to bounce back from his goal-kicking horror show at Ashton Gate.

The former Leicester and Northampton ace missed three conversions as Warriors edged to a 29-28 first leg win against Bristol.

But the mercurial Lamb was superb with the ball in hand and the Warriors chief has backed the 29-year-old to shine in the Championship play-off final second leg in front of a sell-out Sixways crowd on Wednesday (7.45pm).

“If anybody can bounce back, it’s probably Ryan,” said the Warriors chief.

“He will be the least affected by what happened than anybody.

“It’s a big game and he plays well in big games and I think his ball in hand stuff is outstanding and he kicked well the week previously. People think if I tell him to kick well everything will get better.

“It’s life as a goal-kicker and sometimes you have one of those days.

“I chatted to him afterwards and he said he felt he struck the first two kicks really well but they didn’t go where he wanted them to. He then said he couldn’t hit it with a 50p.”

Warriors ran in five tries in a thrilling contest and snatched victory in the dying seconds when Lamb converted Niall Annett’s last-gasp try.

“I am not concerned about Ryan going into the game,”said Ryan.

“He came here to play in games like that and be at the front of everything and he doesn’t lack confidence in being able to do that.

"We have to make sure we hang on to the things we are very good at and make sure we work hard at the things we can get better at. Ryan is aware of that — the same as everybody else.”
