MALVERN’S Lottie Trevethan secured a silver medal at the British Modern Tetrathlon Championships.

The 12-year-old had won the Malvern Hills district junior female sports personality accolade in July.

Trevethan followed up the local triumph with a runners-up place in the under-15s age group at the national competition, which now leaves her ranked second in Great Britain.

After the first three events of fencing, swimming and shooting, the teenager was lying in seventh place.

This meant, going into the combined event, she started one minute 29 seconds behind the leader.

The handicapped start saw competitors run 800 metres twice over with a set of knockdown target shooting after each.

The athlete had to shoot down the targets before they left the range or wait 70 seconds in a testing event during a long day.

After the second shoot, Trevethan knocked all five targets down in 25 seconds and ran the last 800m in a personal best time to take the silver.

She also won the medal for the fastest combined event time of her age group in seven minutes 42 seconds.

Trevethan, who attends The Downs School, Malvern, was one of the youngest competitors in her category.
