WORCESTER'S Old Vigornians rose to third in Worcestershire League Division Three with a nine-wicket win at Malvern.

The hosts were dismissed for 131 thanks to a devastating 5-25 from veteran paceman Jabba Riaz.

The Labour councillor took a break from political negotiations to register his second best figures for the club.

George Painter picked up two wickets as only Harry Tiara (29) and Neil Thompson (35) offered much resistance.

OVs' captain Osman Fiaz followed up two centuries with 52 not out, while Chris Drew (33no) and Rob Lanchbury-Thomas (36) offered valuable support.

The seconds enjoyed the best of a thrilling Division Three draw with Claverley at Peopleton.

Put into bat, OVs were soon in trouble but Tasweer Shah (53) led the recovery after George Hayward-Meek (25) fell on 63-3 in the 23rd over.

Rizwan Ashraf capitalised on Claverley’s lack of bowling options with a brutal 138no, including 10 fours and 11 sixes.

He was dropped three times but OVs scored 195 in 21 overs before declaring on 274-5 from 46 overs.

Claverley looked favourites on 209-3 with nine overs left and OVs down to eight fielders.

David Cole (2-23) made two breakthroughs before James Underwood (0-48), Phil Mackie (2-55) and Kamran Ashraf (2-54) bowled fine spells to keep Claverley just behind the run-rate.

Opener Darren Morris (99) fell to a juggling catch by Nick Watson as the visitors finished on 266-8.
