THERE was virtually no play anywhere in the Worcestershire Cricket League after tea due to rain.

In Division One, all matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled in the second innings and all teams recorded between five and nine points with positions hardly affected.

Nomads now head Colwall by 13 points ahead of the final round of matches before the win-lose section takes over until late August.

Despite a late start, Bromyard were stung into action by sinking to the foot of Division Two and beat Evesham by five wickets in a low-scoring encounter thanks to 5-39 taken by Greg Leighton.

They raised themselves to eighth place and now Lye and Alvechurch and Hopwood are joint bottom.

That was despite Alvechurch’s Adam Markham Jones scoring 101 and Nick Jones 87 in their side’s 274-6 at home to Enville.

Bredon’s Martin Hill took 8-40 in Coombs Wood’s innings, Worcester Dominies' Chris Miles made 117 not out for his second century of the campaign against Feckenham and Jamie Snow took 6-33 for Wormelow at home to Lye.

In Division Three, the only match to start a second innings was at Avoncroft where Jon Hunter rushed Himbleton’s innings through in under 38 overs, taking 8-42.

But only 19 overs were bowled second time around and they did not quite achieve enough for a winning draw.

Bartestree’s Ben Chaplin made 84 and Adam Jones supported with 81 not out as their side scored 311-8 before the rain and they still lead the table by 19 from Harborne.

Division Four saw a similar tale with Halesowen's Shaz Gill scoring 100 in his side’s match versus Bromsgrove.

The only match not be be left as abandoned was Claverley’s winning draw at Martley, who still head the table by seven points from Bromsgrove.

In Division Five, all five matches were rained off so West Malvern still head the table by 13 points from Hallow after Phil Chaundy’s 5-29 was not quite enough to enable them to chase Enville’s modest total.
